Cosmetic Gum Surgery

Each procedure is tailored to each individual patient because no two cases are the same as no two people are the same. That’s why we take the time to provide all the details about each case and procedure.

Cosmetic gum surgery, also known as gum contouring surgery, gingivectomy, or gum reshaping surgery, is used to improve the look of the gums by evening out an uneven gum line and/or removing excess gum tissue. In some cases, cosmetic gum surgery is performed as an independent procedure, while in others it may be performed in coordination with other periodontal procedures such as crown lengthening or pocket reduction.

  • You may be a candidate for cosmetic gum surgery if you are unhappy with the way your gums look. Cosmetic gum surgery can be used to address the following concerns:

    • Gums that are too low

    • Gums that are too high

    • Uneven gums

To determine if you are an ideal candidate for cosmetic gum surgery, schedule a consultation with our Flushing, Queens dentist at Dental Solutions New York today.

  • When undergoing cosmetic gum surgery at Dental Solutions New York, you can expect to undergo a minor oral surgery that will require a local anesthetic. During the procedure, our dentist will remove excess gum tissue and reshape the remaining tissue. This can be performed using a scalpel or dental laser.

  • After cosmetic gum surgery, our dentist will provide you with guidelines to follow after surgery that will likely include some or all of the following:

    • Diet: Eat soft foods for the first week and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid hot foods and beverages for the first day since they can cause excess bleeding or burns.

    • Oral Hygiene: Gently rinse with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon salt in 8 oz. water) 24 hours after surgery, then 4-5 times daily for the first few days. Avoid brushing or flossing until directed by our dentist.

    • Medications: Take any antibiotics or pain medications as directed.

    • Activity: Avoid strenuous activities until directed by our dentist.
