Crowns
Each procedure is tailored to each individual patient because no two cases are the same as no two people are the same. That’s why we take the time to provide all the details about each case and procedure.
A dental “crown” is a tooth shaped cap that covers the top of a natural tooth. It is used to restore strength, durability, and appearance in the case that the natural tooth has become partially damaged or decayed. In some cases, these artificial caps are use for cosmetic reasons to improve the appearance of stained or oddly shaped teeth. Crowns can be made from porcelain (a ceramic-like material), which looks natural, or metal alloys like gold or palladium, which have a more metallic look. There are also BruxZir crowns, which are fabricated from zirconia.

You may be a candidate for a dental crown if you have a tooth that is significantly damaged or decayed but still has an intact root. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for a dental crown, schedule a consultation with our Flushing, Queens dentist at Dental Solutions New York today.

The dental crown procedure at Dental Solutions New York is typically completed in two appointments. The first appointment is necessary to prepare the tooth, and the second is necessary to cement the permanent restoration after it has been fabricated by a dental lab. When having a dental crown placed, the treatment area will first be numbed with dental anesthetics. Once the area has been numbed, our dentist will remove any decay left on your tooth and shape it so that it can accommodate the new crown.
You will then have a dental impression taken of your mouth. This information will be sent to a dental lab and used to fabricate your custom-fit crown. In the meantime, your dentist will place a temporary cap over the site. When the final restoration is complete, the temporary cap will be removed and replaced with the permanent crown.

After having a temporary dental crown placed, you will temporarily need to avoid chewing on that side of your mouth in order to prevent the crown from being damaged or dislodged. Once your permanent crown is placed, you can resume your normal routine. You will need to care for your crown by brushing and flossing daily, and scheduling regular dental exams. For the first few days after your new crown is placed, you may experience some minor tooth sensitivity and/or soreness in the gums. This will fade once your mouth has adapted to the new restoration.
