Sealants

Each procedure is tailored to each individual patient because no two cases are the same as no two people are the same. That’s why we take the time to provide all the details about each case and procedure.

Dental sealants are a quick, easy, and painless way to protect your teeth from tooth decay. Dental sealants work by filling in the grooves on the chewing surfaces of back teeth where food can get trapped and left to rot. This prevents cavities from forming and helps prevent tooth loss. Although brushing and flossing are still the best way to maintain your oral health, dental sealants are another effective method to prevent tooth decay.

  • Yes! Dental sealants are recommended for all children, especially those who are at a higher risk of tooth decay. These children include those with deep grooves on their back teeth, healthy teeth that have already developed cavities, and kids with braces.

Dental sealants can also be used on adults who are prone to tooth decay, struggle to maintain proper oral hygiene, or who are at an increased risk of tooth decay due to dry mouth. To determine if you are an ideal candidate for dental sealants, schedule a consultation with our Flushing, Queens dentist at Dental Solutions New York .

  • First, our dentist will clean your teeth and remove any existing tartar or plaque from your teeth. In order to have success with the sealants, it is important that they are placed over clean tooth enamel.

Next, our dentist will apply a resin material to your teeth using a special syringe. This resin material is applied over the grooves and pits of the molars and will harden when it is exposed to light. Since the sealants are white or clear, you should not be able to see them once they have been hardened.

  • After your dental sealants have been placed, you will be able to resume your normal routine. There are no special guidelines to follow since the sealant is completely hardened in place during your appointment. However, you will need to be sure to brush twice a day, floss daily, and schedule dental exams at least twice a year.

  • Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (molars) to help prevent cavities.
